The websites listed in the Books and Resources for this week provide information regarding common logical fallacies and offers examples for each fallacy. You can do a Google search and find additional examples of each if you need to. For this assignment describe what fallacious thinking is and provide one example for each of the following logical fallacies:

Faulty Comparison
Hasty Generalization
Non Sequitur
Be sure to use examples that relate to the field of Marriage and Family Therapy, either examples that you create yourself, or that you locate in articles or other media sources. You will be providing examples of four logical fallacies, examples relevant to the field of Marriage and Family Therapy.
Part 2: Critical Thinking about Change in Therapy – 1 pg
This assignment you are invited to think critically about what is essential to creating change in therapy. Each article you read for this week presents a different argument about what causes change. Briefly describe the articles you read and then evaluate these arguments. This part of the assignment will involve comparing different answers to the question, “What causes change in therapy?” Is it perhaps the treatment interventions (i.e., utilizing evidenced based treatments)? The type of change sought (e.g., first order versus second order change)? The therapist characteristics (e.g., ability to inspire hope, attend well)?The characteristics of the client (e.g., readiness for change)? Is it aspects of the therapy relationship (mutual respect, warmth, etc.)? Or something else? You are being asked to evaluate the strengths of these various arguments based on the required readings and any other readings you may find.
Part 3: Your of Change in Therapy
Write your own “philosophy of change” in the practice of MFT. In this part of the assignment, you may consider your personal beliefs, however, you should also consider how the ideas and concepts discussed in this week’s readings relate to your personal philosophy of change.
Write a 3 page paper in which you will: Part 1) provide examples of the four given logical fallacies in Part 1- examples relevant to the field of marriage and family therapy, Part 2) evaluate the strengths of the various arguments about what is essential to creating change in marriage and family therapy, and Part write about your own “philosophy of change” in the practice of marriage and family therapy.
