Secondary data is defined as the repurposing of one study’s data for use in another study. There are advantages and disadvantages of using. The advantage of using secondary data in economics, the data is already collected which saves money, time, energy. A disadvantage of using secondary data is that research questions contain specific information that the researcher would like to have and since the researcher does not collect the data, they have no control over what is contained in the data. “Secondary data analysis enables researchers to conduct studies that are otherwise not feasible. It also opens up research to public scrutiny, allowing for verification, refinement, or refutation of the original results (O’Sullivan et al., 2017, pg. 276).” Research requires planning, strategizing, and commitment from researchers and all participants. Jeremiah 33:2-3 states, “Thus says the Lord who made the earth, the Lord who formed it to establish it the Lord is his name: Call to me and I will answer you and will tell you great and hidden things that you have not known (The Holy Bible).” All research should be honest and accurate when collecting and recording within the field of research. Practicing integrity and using good ethics can make a great contribution to data in research methods. There are many truths in the world that surface when conducting research in the world we live in today.

Examining the behaviors of millennial firefighters requires fire services administrators to identify and utilize models that analyze the independent and dependent variables of firefighter retention.

This study will use descriptive statistics to represent an essential part of firefighter behavior. This study has gathered data to explore the challenges plaguing fire service attraction and retention through a customized survey. The research concluded:

1) the fire service is not attracting the number and quality of applicants that it once did,

2) the generational traits of millennials do not fully align with the business model of the modern fire service, and

3) parents direct their children toward a college education; many of them did not have themselves.

The use of charts and graphs will illustrate the issues that prevent the fire service from replenishing the profession with the quality and quantity of talent needed to ensure continuity of response at the local level.
