Barack Obama’s religion is Christianity which means he does not support violence.

1.Barack Obama’s is Christianity which means he does not support . Machiavelli believed in having wars. Machiavelli taught how to gain political power, and he even wrote a book about it. Machiavelli leaned towards the ways of the Romans. Barack Obama is a democrat, and Machiavelli was a republican. This means that Machiavelli lead his country with the knowledge of what was happening in the Roman society, but Barack Obama is basing his decisions off of Christianity. Obama showed love to his country and to other countries. Obama promoted peace. Machiavelli appears to have based his decisions off of revenge.

2.With running the risk of writing what is probably on everyone’s mind, I would label Adolf Hitler as one of the most Machiavellian rulers known to us, today. Absolute power was the driving force of everything Hitler did, including the mass genocide of the Jewish population in order to create and control his “perfect” society. Hitler was charismatic and popular, yet he was ultimately feared instead of loved. This preference of ruling with an iron fist over a ruling with fairness and generosity was exactly what Machiavelli labeled as a “good prince”. In his own mind, and displayed throughout the pages of his ruler-guidelines in The Prince, he viewed harsh dictatorship as far superior to benevolence. Hitler was not happy with simply having power; he wanted ultimate power. It was not enough to have Nazi military support, government allies, and popularity. Hitler wanted domination and a German Utopia void of Jews and run by Fascist radicals. His blood thirst did not stop with the society he was a part of, however, his desire to dominate stretched to foreign shores as well, including America and would not have ceased there until his flawless world was created.

Machiavelli attempted to teach the rulers of his day not only how to obtain ultimate power, but how to hold on to it as well. His solution to the fragmented Italian states that he saw crumbling around him, was “a strong, effective prince unconstrained by moral pieties”. He saw the ultimate society as one governed by a formidable military that would essentially be the driving force behind whatever all-powerful dictator would happen to be in power at the time. In The Prince, he states,

“For there is such a difference between the way men live and the way they ought to live, that anybody who abandons what is for what ought to be will learn something that will ruin rather than preserve him, because anyone who determines to act in all circumstances the part of a good man must come to ruin among so many who are not good. Hence, if a prince wishes to maintain himself, he must learn how to be not good, and to use that ability or not as is required.”

In other words, there is a very large difference between what is supposed to happen and what actually happens in society. Yes, we are “supposed” to live virtuous lives that, according to Machiavelli, obey the ruler at all times. However, that rarely happens. Due to this, if the ruler wants to keep his power, he must learn how to not be good and instead, act according to what is necessary for him to maintain his ultimate authority. AKA: the ends justify the means. Adolf Hitler and the generals and leaders that supported him, were walking examples of this quote. Regardless of the over 6 million Jews (and many more innocents who stood in their way) that were killed in order to win the war and have complete control, regardless of the societies and political structures in place around the world, in Hitler’s mind, they needed to be eradicated. He spoke even of America as a doomed state, too influenced by Judaism and Africans to ever be successful. He also condemned other governments that did not follow his way of thinking as needing to be done away with as well.

Machiavelli would have been extremely proud. According to him, Hitler would have indeed been a “good prince” for the duration of his rule, due to the tyrannical nature of his governing, the thirst for complete control and domination, and the passionate and energetic methods he used to manipulate the people into siding with his regime. Voltaire reasons that, “They must consider that great responsibility follows inseparably from great power.” Unfortunately, the Machiavellian mindset has corrupted many great leaders and the result was that their inherited responsibility was turned into unparalleled terror.
